December Monthly Update and Year-In-Review

Happy Safe New Year!

We are so sorry for any of your losses this past year. It has been one of the many challenges and transitions to new lifestyles.

Dear Affiliates, Colleagues, and Friends,

As we finish 2020, I hope you have a chance for reflection before we start a New Year. Although this has been a difficult year for the world with the pandemic affecting nearly every country at every level, I know we are worried about the impact among the least powered individuals and countries. There is no better time to challenge the injustice and inequality globally that is apparent than now in how the vaccine might be distributed but also the trailing aftermath of all the economic downturn. Even in our local communities, people of color have been most impacted by COVID-19 due to social determinants of health and systemic vulnerabilities. As unemployment soars, food insecurity rises, and housing instability affects these populations, that will challenge our work and volunteerism to help make lives better for the disenfranchised and silent, especially women and sexual minorities. I hope these populations identified at greater risk for COVID are among the first after the frontline and essential workers receive a vaccine. May we enter 2021 together with a renewed commitment for justice, equality, and health for all. Be kind to one another, be compassionate, understanding, and full of love.
