Elizabeth Montgomery, PhD, is an infectious disease epidemiologist specializing in novel biomedical and behavioral strategies to reduce HIV acquisition among women in Southern Africa. She is a member of the Women's Global Health Imperative (WGHI) which performs research design and implementation of new programs, monitoring and evaluation systems, and health policies around the world.
From 2001 to 2007, Dr. Montgomery was based in Harare, Zimbabwe, and Cape Town, South Africa, where she set up and ran a large HIV prevention clinical trial program that included a randomized clinical trial, ancillary clinical studies, and both social science and policy and advocacy components. She is the principal or co-investigator for RTI on several studies examining the acceptability, safety, and use of HIV/STI prevention methods in Southern Africa, and provides technical input on the behavioral assessments for several other related protocols. She has designed and run two social science studies examining male partner involvement in women’s HIV prevention and household and community factors influencing HIV testing uptake for antenatal women.
Dr. Montgomery has extensive experience training research staff; monitoring clinical research studies; and writing and designing study protocols, operating procedures, data management systems, and data collection instruments. In addition, she has experience with quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, analysis, and writing.
